Saudi king and Turkey president discuss regional issues

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Tuesday discussed with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan here regional issues, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Erdogan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday for an official visit to the country, aiming to boost bilateral relations and cooperation.

The visit was part of his Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tour that started with Bahrain and will end in Qatar.

Before the beginning of his Gulf trip in Bahrain on Sunday, Erdogan said the Turkish troops and their Syrian rebel allies had entered the center of al-Bab, the last stronghold of the Islamic State (IS) in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo.

Erdogan also called for a safe zone in northern Syria to settle displaced people amid the ongoing war.

The Saudi king visited Turkey in 2016, in which Erdogan awarded him a rare honor, the Order of State. Turkey then began hosting Saudi warplanes at its Incirlik air base as part of the U.S.-led coalition against the IS, who are among an array of factions fighting in Syria. Endit
