Ruling party confirms Serbian PM as likely candidate for presidential elections

Xinhua, February 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic is likely to become the candidate of his party at the upcoming presidential elections this April, the Serbian Progressive Party confirmed in a press announcement on Tuesday.

Members of the party's presidency unanimously proposed Vucic to its main board as presidential candidate, and obliged him to discuss his candidature with other parties of the ruling coalition.

Vucic also needs to secure the support of the current Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic in order to attract enough necessary votes to beat candidates of the opposition parties.

The main board of the Progressive Party will meet on Feb. 17 and will decide on making Vucic an official presidential candidate. Endit
