Ukraine, Moldova agree to deepen all-round cooperation

Xinhua, February 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and his visiting Moldovan counterpart Pavel Filip held talks here on Monday by agreeing to deepen all-round cooperation between the two countries.

The Ukrainian government press service said that during the talks, Groysman and Filip agreed to promote the trade between Ukraine and Moldova and drew an eight-point roadmap for developing the bilateral partnership, with special focus on ecology, energy sector and border control.

"We are ready for a maximum expansion of our cooperation, which would benefit both countries," Groysman told reporters after the talks.

The agreement on the completion of demarcation of the common border by the end of the year was one of the main achievements of the meeting, Groysman emphasized.

For his part, Filip pointed that the sides also reached a deal on the joint protection of the ecosystem of the Dniester River.

"All our projects are aimed at bringing benefits to our people and we must think about next generations, especially regarding the issues of environment protection," Filip said.

Ukraine and Moldova, which share a border line of around 1,000 km, have to demarcate less than 1 percent of the frontier.

The trade turnover between the two countries stood at 528 million U.S. dollars in 2016, down 7 percent from the previous year. Endit
