Fiji to host Netball World Youth Cup in 2021

Xinhua, February 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

Fiji will host the Netball World Youth Cup in 2021, the government confirmed Friday, citing an announcement by the International Netball Federation (INF) earlier this week.

The inaugural Netball World Youth Cup is scheduled to be held in Gaborone, Botswana in July this year, featuring some 20 countries from all of the INF's five regions.

Previously known as the World Youth Netball Championships, the event has been held every four years since 1988 and this will be the first time for Fiji to host it, the Department of Information said.

Laisenia Tuitubou, Fiji's minister for youth and sports, welcomed the announcement as it offers a new opportunity to showcase the Pacific island nation to the world.

"Our hosting of this global youth meet is a true testament to our commitment and belief in the importance and values of sports, such as netball, in the country and indeed on the international stage," Tuitubou said. Endit
