Xinhua, February 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security's General Department of Logistics-Engineering held here Friday a ceremony to launch preparations for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Year 2017.

Speaking at the ceremony, Le Van Minh, department director, underscored the importance of logistics and technical capability to ensure the safety of the APEC meeting, reported the state-run news agency VNA.

Minh asked relevant units to work with public security forces and localities to ensure security and safety of APEC activities.

Around 200 activities will be held across Vietnamese cities and provinces as part of the APEC Year 2017. Among which, the biggest event is APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Vietnam's central Da Nang City in November.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998 and hosted APEC 14 in 2006.

Established in 1989, APEC now comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, China's Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, China's Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
