Turkish police detain 4 IS suspects preparing suicide attacks

Xinhua, February 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

Turkey on Thursday detained four suspected Islamic State (IS) militants believed to be planning suicide attacks, authorities said.

Police in the southern province of Gaziantep detained the four suspects, acting on a tip, the Governor's Office said in a statement.

Explosives, weapons, and ammunition were discovered in the operation, including a suicide vest, two AK-47 rifles and dozens bomb activators.

Gaziantep is the largest city in the southeast Turkey along the border with Syria, and is one of the cities with an active IS presence.

On Aug. 20 last year, 57 people, 34 of them children, were killed and over 90 others injured in an IS-linked attack targeting a street wedding in Gaziantep. Endit
