Tokyo stocks open higher on strong showing of Wall Street

Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday, mirroring a rise in U.S. shares overnight during which the Dow Jones Industrial Average again hit a record high during trading.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 56.43 points, or 0.30 percent, from Tuesday to 18,967.21.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.19 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,520.34.

Notable issues that advanced in early play comprised glass, insurance and marine transport-linked issues. Endit
