The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Tuesday.

--Setting targets that the mining industry cannot achieve will create more contestation and undermine investment in the sector going forward, the Chamber of Mines said on Monday.

In a statement in response to Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane's opening address and comments made at a media briefing on the first day of the 2017 Mining Conference, the Chamber said it recognizes the fact that all stakeholders have an interest in the outcomes of the mining charter. --Parliament will brief media on preparations for hosting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday.

President Jacob Zuma will present the address to a joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament. It will be Zuma's fourth SONA since he was re-elected in May 2014. (News24)

--The Somali Community Board of South Africa said on Monday that it's planning to meet with police this week to discuss a spate of killings of fellow countrymen in the Western Cape Province.
