A Palestinian security official at the Embassy of Palestine in Beirut survived on Sunday an assassination attempt in southern Lebanon.

Ismael Sharrouf, a top security official at the Palestinian embassy in Beirut, was attacked by heavy gunfire from a suspected militant when travelling in his car near a bank in Sidon, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

He was struck by a bullet in the hand, and another bullet almost hit his head, leaving a minor wound, a security source told the NNA.

Sharrouf also suffered mild injuries in the left arm and a cut in his forehead, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Security forces in Sidon later cordoned off the area and are investigating the assault. Endit
