Iran summons Swiss ambassador over Trump's travel ban

Iran summoned Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Giulio Haas on Sunday to protest U.S. "discriminatory" decision to restrict arrivals from seven Muslim countries including Iran, Press TV reported.

Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh, director general for Americas at Iran's Foreign Ministry, handed over an official letter of protest to Haas, who represents the U.S. interests in Tehran, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi.

Keshavarz-Zadeh told the Swiss envoy that the executive order by the new U.S. president was issued under "fictitious, discriminatory and unacceptable" pretexts and runs counter to human rights conventions and a legal and consular treaty signed between Tehran and Washington on Aug. 15, 1955.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday to restrict immigration from countries that he said are "compromised by terrorism."

A White House official later named the restricted countries as Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia. Endit
