Flamengo near deal for Colombia striker

Xinhua, January 26, 2017 Adjust font size:

Brazilian giants Flamengo are close to signing Colombia international forward Orlando Berrio as they reinforce their squad for the upcoming Copa Libertadores.

Flamengo have agreed in principal to pay Atletico Nacional of Medellin 5,000 U.S. dollars for the 25-year-old, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

"We are in talks. We know that there is interest in him, but I'm not going to talk about particular cases now," Atletico Nacional president Juan Carlos de la Cuesta told Globo Esporte.

Berrio has been capped three times for Colombia, having been handed his international debut by coach Jose Pekerman last year.

Flamengo qualified for this year's Copa Libertadores - Latin America's top club competition - by finishing third in the 2016 Brazilian Serie A championship. The Copa Libertadores group stage begins in March. Endit
