Dutch-based VDL Nedcar to produce BMW X1

Xinhua, January 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

Dutch-based car company VDL Nedcar is going to produce BMW X1 in the factory in Born, a city in the Dutch province of Limburg, as of August 2017, the company announced on Wednesday.

"We are pleased that in addition to the Mini models we are now also going to produce a BMW model at VDL Nedcar," Willem van der Leegte, CEO of the VDL Group, said in a press release.

The car factory produces three Mini models for BMW, the Mini 3-door (since 2014), the MINI Convertible (since 2015) and the Mini Countryman (since 2016).

It will also start to produce two more versions of the Countryman in Born as of March.

"The expansion of production capacity represents the trust our customer BMW has in the cooperation with VDL Nedcar and the craftsmanship and flexibility of our employees in Born," said the CEO.

The agreement between VDL Nedcar and BMW leads to around 800 new jobs at VDL Nedcar, which will boost the total number of employees at VDL Nedcar to over 5,000 people. Enditem
