Indonesia speeds up electrification

The Indonesian government has accelerated measures to achieve 100 percent electrification ratio in the country, official said here on Wednesday.

The government had shortened deadline for achieving the ratio to 2024 from beyond 2027, said Nike Widyawati, director for planning of the state-owned electricity firm, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN).

"The 100 percent electrification ratio will be achieved in a shorter period. We aim to reach this so that in 2024 it can be achieved," Nike said in CIMB Niaga building.

To reach the target, Indonesia requires electricity supply by up to 75,900 MW within the next 10 years with 67,785 km transmission, the official said.

For this year, the government has set a 92.75-percent electrification target, up from the 91.16 percent achievement last year, according to energy ministry.

The government has been undertaking a 35,000 MW electricity program to meet rising energy demand in the vast archipelago country.

Indonesia has abundant energy sources to generate power plant, including hydro power, coals and geothermal energy. Endit
