Beijing environmental police arrest 2 on inauguration

Xinhua, January 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Environmental police in Beijing arrested two suspects over pollution, on the day of the new force's inauguration.

The suspects were caught Wednesday, when the new specialist police force, focusing on environmental protection, food and drugs, as well as tourism, was inaugurated, said a police officer with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

After being arrested, both suspects confessed to discharging unprocessed industrial waste water from their plants in Fangshan District, and will face criminal charges.

Police received clues from the environmental protection department on Jan. 15 before a joint investigation team by police and environment workers was formed.

Further investigation is underway. Endi
