Major corruption uncovered in Helsinki education authority

Helsinki police launched a major corruption investigation in the city's early care and education department, and local court authorized the continued detention of the security director of the department, media said on Wednesday.

The commercial television MTV3 news reported that the security director had allegedly received millions of euros in connection with the computer procurements of the authority.

Inspector Ismo Siltamaki of the Helsinki criminal police told national broadcaster Yle that the investigation was the largest ever corruption case dealt with in the Helsinki police force.

The official had been removed from his duties before being arrested last week. Endit
