Ukraine's agricultural output up 6.1 pct in 2016

Xinhua, January 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's agricultural production rose by 6.1 percent in 2016 to about 9.2 billion U.S. dollars, official figures showed on Wednesday.

Last year, 22 out of 24 Ukrainian regions recorded an increase in the farm products output, the country's Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.

The output expansion was achieved due to the substantial increase in crop sector, including a bumper grain harvest, it said.

Last year, Ukrainian farmers reaped their biggest grain yield of 66 million tons since the country's independence in 1991.

In 2015, Ukraine's agricultural output, which generates some 14 percent of the country's gross domestic product, decreased by 4.8 percent from a year before. Endit
