Ukraine's grain harvest hit record high of 66 mln tons in 2016

Ukraine saw the biggest grain harvest of 66 million tons last year since its independence in 1991, the country's Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Compared with 2015, Ukraine's grain output has increased last year by 9.8 percent or 5.9 million tons, the ministry said.

In particularly, in 2016, Ukrainian farmers have reaped about 28 million tons of corn, 26 million tons of wheat and 9.4 million tons of barley, it said.

The bumper harvest was achieved due to the favorable weather conditions, which enabled to boost the average grain yield to 4.6 tons per hectare in 2016 compared with 4.1 tons in the previous year.

In the 2015-2016 marketing year, Ukraine has supplied abroad some 39.5 million tons of grain, the highest exports amount ever reported. Endit
