Lithuania's new Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis arrived here on Thursday on his first foreign visit after taking office last month.

After Skevernelis' meeting with Latvian counterpart Maris Kucinskis, the two leaders told reporters that their talks focused on a broad range of issues, including coordinated military purchases, and cooperation between border guards to prevent illegal migration.

Kucinskis said the talks also touched on the necessity to quicken work on bilateral economic cooperation agreements and pending border treaties.

The two leaders also discussed the progress of Rail Baltica European railroad project, as well as measures aimed at increasing the independence of the Baltic states' energy sector.

Skvernelis specified that discussion covered issues concerning natural gas and electricity supplies. Endit
