Head of Riga airport resigns unexpectedly

Xinhua, January 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

After spending only a few months as CEO of Riga International Airport, Armands Jurjevs resigned surprisingly from his position on Thursday, local media reported.

Jurjevs, who took the post last October, told Latvia's public media website lsm.lv that he was quitting his job because of personal reasons. He denied any professional reasons for his decision.

Jurjevs said he tendered his resignation letter on Thursday and the airport's supervisory board would decide on accepting it or not on Friday.

Talis Linkaits, a member of the Riga airport supervisory board, said there had been no indications whatsoever that Jurjevs was going to resign and that he had no idea about his motives.

The Latvian transport ministry appointed the new management board of Riga International Airport on Oct. 21, 2016, naming Jurjevs as its chairman, although the supervisory board's support for him was not unanimous. Endit
