Zambia to launch road traffic law enforcement operation

Xinhua, January 12, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Zambian government will next week launch an intensive traffic law enforcement exercise aimed at increasing compliance to road traffic rules and regulations, its road transport and safety agency said on Thursday.

The enforcement exercise dubbed "Operation Compliance" will be launched by the minister responsible for transport and communication, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) said in a statement.

The agency said the minister will lead a joint team of officers from the police and the road and safety agency to the Copperbelt Province and other parts of the country to conduct road traffic law enforcement operations on roadworthiness, compliance to road tax and other traffic rules and regulations.

The two-week intensified enforcement operation will be effected on January 15 after an expiry of a 14-day grace period in which motorists were given to acquire licenses and pay necessary fees, it added.

The grace period runs from January 1 to January 14.

The government was concerned that there was a reduced compliance by motorists in the payment of road tax and adherence to traffic rules and regulations. Endit
