Xinhua, January 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Around 250 U.S. soldiers arrived at southwest Poland on Saturday, kicking start a nine-month rotational shift as NATO moves to reinforce its eastern flank.

The soldiers, who arrived at Wroclaw airport and a training ground in Zagan, are from a U.S. armored brigade which will be stationed in Poland.

"This is a historic moment. U.S. soldiers are starting a nine-month rotational shift in Poland," U.S. General Kenneth Lee Kamper told reporters, adding the entire operation of transporting U.S. soldiers and equipment to Europe went smoothly.

The soldiers are participants of the Operation Atlantic Resolve, which involves the third Armored Brigade Combat Team and part of the fourth Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colorado in United States.

The Armored Brigade Combat Team of 3,500 people will bring along more than 1,300 vehicles. Two cargo ships carrying U.S. military equipment arrived at German port Bremerhaven on Friday. The equipment will be transported to Zagan, one of the five main Polish sites where the U.S. soldier will be stationed. The other four sites are Drawsko Pomorskie, Skwierzyna, Swietoszow and Boleslawiec.

The Operation Atlantic Resolve started in 2014. All U.S. efforts to support NATO fall under the operation. During the operation, the U.S. will augment military presence in eastern Europe. Endit
