Ghana swears in new legislators

Ghana on Saturday swore in 275 legislators for the seventh Parliament of the fourth Republic.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed the position the Majority in the House with 169 Members of Parliament (MPs) while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) became the Minority with 106 MPs.

Mike Oquaye, a former Ghana Ambassador to China and former member of the House was elected and sworn in as Speaker.

In his acceptance speech, Oquaye admonished the law makers that the task ahead of them was to serve the people of Ghana.

"Our people expect us to help fix the economy, provide jobs for the unemployed, improve access and equality of education, healthcare and generally give them hope for the future." Endit
