Sun Minghui named MVP in CBA ALl-Star Rookie Challenge

Sun Minghui of Guangsha won the Trophy of the Most Valuable Player of the 2016-2017 season CBA ALl-Star Rookie Challenge held in Beijing as he had the team-high 17 points in Southern Rookie' s 82-81 victory over the Northern Rookie.

Fu Hao from Bayi started the match with two points in the paint. Gao Shiyan scored seven points in a row to help the Nouthern team take an early lead in the first quarter 23-19. Both team had a close game in the match as neither team was able to build a huge advantage.

The North had two three-pointers late in the fourth quarter while Sun Minghui stood out later with consecutive shots and a block. But the most impressive performance was his three-pointer which helped the South lead 82-81 with 15 seconds left on the clock. The Northern team had chances but Wang Hong passed the ball to the Southern opponents to cost his side the victory.

"I didn' t think too much then, our coach Wang Zhizhi told us not to be afraid of taking a chance," said the young MVP, "I'll continue to work hard for the dream to play in the national team."

He Xining had a game-high 18 points and ten rebounds for the North, Sun led the Southern Rookie with 17 points, Fu Hao scored 14 points, Shen Zijie of Shenzhen had seven points and 13 rebounds.

Sun Minghui continued to shine in the Dunk Contest permilinary round by combining 100 points with two dunks. His opponents in the final tomorrow will be Lai Junhao of Zhejiang and Leng Zhenduo from Tongxi.

Wang Hong headed into the final of the Technics Challenge as he finished the challenge with 31.2 seconds. The final will be tough for him as his opponent Wang Zirui had a much better result of 26.8 seconds.

The defending champion of Three-Point Shooting Contest Zhao Tailong wasn' t lucky tonight. He tied 19-19 with Tian Jiafu from Qingdao at the first round and lost to the latter 3-8 in the 30-second overtime. Tian made into the final with Yuan Shuai who scored 22 and Jimmer Fredette who had 21. Endit
