Hamburg appoint Todt as sporting director

Xinhua, January 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Hamburg have appointed Jens Todt as their new sporting director, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Friday.

The 47-year-old sporting director and former Germany international, who joined from second division side Karlsruher SC, penned a two-year deal, which will keep him in Hamburg until January 2019.

"I have the certain feeling that Jens Todt fits very well to (coach) Markus Gisdol and me because of his vita," Hamburg's CEO Heribert Bruchhagen told the club's official homepage.

Hamburg is not a new territory for Todt as he already worked in the season 2008/2009 as manager of Hamburg's youth teams.

"It is something special for me to take responsibility at Hamburg. I am looking forward to this challenging task and I am ready to make my contribution," Todt said.

In the course of the transfer, Hamburg and Karlsruher SC agreed upon a test match between the two clubs.

Hamburg currently sit on the 16th place of the standings, which is a relegation play-off spot. They encounter 13th placed Wolfsburg on January 21. Endit
