Ibex-35 crosses 9,500 point mark after positive first week of 2017

Xinhua, January 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Spanish Ibex-35 stock exchange crossed the 9,500-point mark on Friday, the fifth day of trading in the new year.

The Ibex-35 began trading on 9,488.20 points on Friday and closed on 9,515.90 points, a gain of 0.29 percent in share values.

And compared with the last day of trading of 2016, share values rose by 1.75 percent.

Friday is a public holiday in Spain, which usually means little movement on the Ibex-35 and little change from the trends of recent days with small to moderate gains for the country's banks, while energy companies generally continued to see their share values dip.

Banco Popular, the worst performer in 2016, continues to be the strongest performer at the start of 2017 and again saw share prices rise by 1.61 percent, while Banco Sabadell's shares climbed by 1.17 percent.

Arcelormittal saw share values drop by 1.29 percent on a day, becoming the only company registering a fall of over 1 percent in share prices.

The Spanish Risk Premium fell by 0.16 percent to 123.7 points, while interest on the 10-year bond continued to rise and ended the week on 1.54 percent. Enditem
