Albania's election body appoints 2 new MPs

Xinhua, January 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Albania's Central Election Commission (CEC) on Friday decided unanimously to mandate two new Members of Parliament (MPs) Edmond Zejno and Flamur Celaj, the election body informed in a press release.

The two newly-appointed MPs will replace the two lawmakers who were sacked from parliament a week ago: Dashamir Tahiri and Shkelqim Selami.

Apart from the two MPs, the CEC also dismissed Kavaja mayor Elvis Rroshi.

The three were stripped of their mandates in late December for allegedly hiding their criminal past in declarations made earlier in 2016 under the decriminalization law scrutinizing the integrity of all public office holders.

The CEC informed that the two new MPs, both representing the district of Vlora in the south of Albania, would take oath at the start of the new parliamentary session. Endit
