Slovenia pushes for EU constitution

Xinhua, January 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Senior public figures including Slovenian President Borut Pahor on Friday signed the Ljubljana Initiative, calling for a European Union (EU) constitution that aims to address the decline in the EU's size and strength following Brexit.

The 69-page document defines the division of power in a proposed new institutional set-up of the bloc into the three traditional branches, as well as the division of jurisdiction between member states and the EU.

According to European law professor Matej Avbelj, one of the co-signatories, the document called for a "non-state federation based on the values of constitutional democracy that will serve to preserve the member states while strengthening our, European values." Endit
