Security and fighting terrorism challenges for 2017 in Slovakia

Xinhua, January 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

Slovak Interior Ministry on Thursday unveiled the ministry's priorities for 2017, including security and the fight against terrorism and extremism.

"The main task of the Interior Ministry is to provide Slovakia with the highest security level possible," said Interior Minister Robert Kalinak.

According to statistics, Slovaks are safer than they were before 1989.

Regarding the fight against terrorism and extremism, the minister said the ministry is preparing a fundamental change in the National Crime Agency (NAKA).

"A new specialized department for combating terrorism and extremism is about to be set up, and it will feature our top-notch NAKA experts, so that we can address the issue more intensively," said Kalinak.

"I think that terrorism and extremism are an extraordinary threat not only to the security sector, but also to the cornerstones of democracy. Every country must be much stricter and tougher in this regard," stressed Kalinak.

The minister also pledged to address the issue of illegal migration in 2017. Enditem
