Malaysian man receives life sentence for murdering American in Vietnam

Xinhua, January 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

A Vietnamese court here on Thursday passed the life sentence on a 32-year-old Malaysian man who stabbed his American friend to death after quarrelling about money.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court said that Chuah Chow Fay came to a hotel in the city in May 2015 to meet his 46-year-old friend Alexk Kwork. During their talks, Kwork asked Fay to lend him some money, but the Malaysian citizen refused.

Being attacked by Kwork with a cutter after a fierce quarrel, Fay seized the cutter and stabbed the American man to death.

The following day, Fay went to an international border gate in Vietnam's southern Tay Ninh province to flee to Cambodia, but was arrested by Vietnamese police.

Six days ago, the local court also sentenced Fay three years behind bars on the charge of circulating fake documents. Enditem
