India, Pakistan exchange list of nuclear installations

New Delhi and Islamabad Sunday exchanged a list of their nuclear installations, officials said.

The exchange has taken place under a bilateral agreement between the two countries that prohibits them from attacking each other's atomic facilities.

"India and Pakistan today exchanged, through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad, the list of nuclear installations and facilities covered under the agreement on the prohibition of attack against nuclear installations between India and Pakistan," a statement issued of India's foreign ministry said.

Sunday's exchange is the twenty sixth consecutive exchange between the two countries since 1992.

"The agreement, which was signed on 31 Dec. 1988 and entered into force on 27 Jan. 1991, provides, inter alia, that the two countries inform each other of nuclear installations and facilities to be covered under the agreement on the first of Jan. of every calendar year," the statement said.

The two countries also exchanged lists of their nationals (including civil prisoners and fishermen) languishing in each other's jails. Endit
