Inmates kill policeman, escape from Bahrain's prison

Xinhua, January 1, 2017 Adjust font size:

Several convicted terrorists killed a policeman and escaped from Bahrain's largest prison on Sunday.

The incident happened at the Reformation and Rehabilitation facility in Jaw that houses scores of inmates including those serving life imprisonments.

The interior ministry identified the deceased policeman as Abdulsalam Saif, who died as he prevented the inmates from escaping.

"A Jail break attempt was reported at Jaw prison resulting in death of policeman Abdulsalam Said who died as he attempted to prevent some convicts from escaping," stated the ministry.

"Several convicted terrorists escaped from Jaw prison prompting security and legal proceedings," the statement said.

Riots broke out in the same facility in Jaw in March 2015, forcing police forces to step in and restore order. Endit
