Mozambique to introduce clean fuel starting 2017

Xinhua, December 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Mozambican authorities announced on Thursday in Maputo that they will, starting next year, introduce clean fuel with lower quantities of sulfur as part of efforts to protect environment.

The new fuel with drop from the current 500 parts-per million (ppm) to 50 only, thus reducing the pollution of the environment in the country, said the national director for hydrocarbons, Moises Paulino.

"The new fuel will reduce the emission of black smoke in our towns, our vehicles will perform much better, it will reduce the damaging of the engine, vehicle owners will reduce the frequency under which they have to change engine oils and there will be reduction in the consumption of fuel, these are some of the advantages," said Paulino.

He guaranteed that despite all these advantages that the new fuel will bring to Mozambican consumers, the price of fuel will not increase.

The director believes that the large offer in the market will mean a competitive price to Mozambican consumers.

Mozambique consumes around 1.5 million cubic meters of fuel annually, 70 percent of which is diesel. Endit
