Serbia purchases nine military helicopters from Germany

Xinhua, December 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Serbia concluded a deal to purchase nine H145M military helicopters from the German "Airbus Helicopters" company on Thursday.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic praised the deal at his annual press conference as a major investment in Serbia's safety.

He said the new helicopters will, together with six MIG-29 airplanes purchased from Russia recently, "make the sky above Serbia incomparably safer" in 2017.

According to a release of the Defense Ministry, the helicopters will equip the Air Force of the Serbian Army and the police helicopter unit to conduct the most demanding mission.

Serbian Air Force suffered in the past decades due to lack of investments.

The country lost one of several remaining military helicopters in March 2015 when a Mi-17 crashed in heavy fog near the Belgrade airport. Serbia bought two new Mi17-V5 from Russia this June. Enditem
