Nepalese President congratulates Malaysia's new king

Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari has written to the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Tuanku Muhammad V, on the occasion of His Majesty's commencement of the reign, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said here in Kathmandu in a press statement on Thursday.

President Bhandari, in her message, expressed the confidence that Malaysia will achieve further progress and prosperity under His Majesty's visionary stewardship.

The Nepalese president believed that relations between the two countries will grow further during His Majesty's reign.

Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan was formally sworn in on Dec. 13 as Malaysia's 15th "Yang di-Pertuan Agong," or the king.

Under the special rotational monarchy system in Malaysia, a king is selected every five years from the nine hereditary sultans, called the conference of rulers.

The new king succeeded Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, whose five-year tenure ended on Dec. 12.

Muhammad V, 47, is currently the youngest among the nine ruling sultans. Enditem
