Xinhua, December 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Incoming UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said he wants to hold a meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump "as soon as possible," in order to establish a "constructive dialogue" with the new administration.

"I had an excellent meeting with (Russian)President (Vladimir) Putin and I hope the same can happen with Donald Trump," Guterres said in a broadcast interview with local news channel SIC on Wednesday night.

"I will have the upmost interest in visiting Trump as soon as possible," Guterres said, adding that there was a need to establish a constructive dialogue with the U.S. administration.

"That is my determination and I will do everything to make it possible," he said.

Gueterres is to replace Ban Ki-moon as the UN chief on Jan. 1, 2017. Endit
