Tokyo shares open lower on gains lock-in

Tokyo shares opened slightly lower Wednesday as investors locked in gains after the Christmas holidays.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 10.57 points, or 0.05 percent, from Tuesday to 19,392.49.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.64 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,535.58.

Decliners were led by rubber product, food and pharmaceutical issues. Endit
