Former Chalco general manager sentenced to 16 years in jail for graft

Xinhua, December 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former general manager of the Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco), was sentenced to 16 years in prison for taking bribes by a court in northeast China's Liaoning Province Monday.

The Tieling Municipal Intermediate People's Court found Sun Zhaoxue, former general manager of Chalco, in possession of a huge amount of property of unknown origin.

Sun's personal assets worth 3.5 million yuan (500,000 U.S. dollars) will be seized, along with his illegal gains and property.

Sun helped others win contracts and promotions from 2003 to 2013 when he was manager of a provincial branch of Chalco, general manager of China National Gold Group Corporation and chairman of Zhongjin Gold Corporation Limited.

He and his wife accepted illegal property worth 38.8 million yuan from 2005 to 2014, and he could not account for the source of property worth 9.69 million yuan.

The court showed Sun leniency for his remorse and for returning of all his illegal assets. Endi
