5 arrested for illegal fishing in Myanmar territorial waters

Myanmar navy has intercepted an illegal Thai fishing boat in its territorial waters, arresting five people including one Thai national and four Myanmar on board, Myanmar News Agency reported Monday.

The boat was intercepted by the Myanmar navy on Friday while catching fish at a location 57.6 km southwest of Kawthaung.

Despite being signalled to stop, the boat turned and attempted to escape but was caught by the Myanmar navy, the report said.

The five people are being taken action in accordance with law, the report added. Endit
