Tokyo shares open lower on gains lock-in

Tokyo shares opened lower Monday as market players locked in gains from the recent market rally.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 8.57 points, or 0.04 percent, from Thursday to 19,419.10. The Tokyo market was closed Friday for a national holiday.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 2.13 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,541.69.

Decliners were led by transportation equipment, marine transportation and bank issues. Endit
