Streets where houses cost more than a million pounds to buy now exist in every region of Britain, a survey revealed Friday.
London's exclusive Eaton Square tops the list Lloyds Bank compiled after studying the prices paid for houses listed at the official Land Registry, with homes costing an average 16,944,000 pounds (20,800,000 U.S. dollars).
The fashionable square in Britain's capital, with its white stucco fronted houses, was built in the 19th Century around a private garden spanning 2.5 hectares.
Even the average price is low compared to the charge for some homes in the square. One house, with seven bedrooms, is currently being offered for sale at a price of 55 million pounds (68 million U.S. dollars).
In Scotland, the survey lists the most expensive street as The Scores in St Andrews, with an average price of 2.2 million pounds (2.7 million U.S. dollars), while in Wales Llys Helyg Drive in the coastal town of Llandudno makes the list with average prices of 1,064,000 pounds (1,306,000 U.S. dollars).
The list gives a region-by-region snapshot of the most expensive streets. In the top ten, seven of most expensive streets are in London, centered around Kensington and Westminster.
Around Britain the most expensive homes in other regions are: Storeys Way, Cambridge (East Anglia region), Farquhar Road, Birmingham (West Midlands region), Ling Lane, Leeds (Yorkshire and the Humber region), Warren Hill, Leicester (East Midlands region) and Runnymede Road, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (North East region), all with average prices of between one and two million pounds.
