Belgium's Pairi Daiza zoo hopes to host rare golden monkeys from China

The director of Belgium's famous Pairi Daiza zoo, Eric Domb, aims to get permission from Chinese authorities to welcome a family of golden monkeys to the zoo.

In an interview with Xinhua on Wednesday, Domb said golden monkeys were rare and that it is perhaps more difficult to get permission to host them than to host pandas.

Domb said should his dream come true, he would like to build a beautiful garden for them where visitors would not only see "the most fantastic monkeys in the world, but also learn about Chinese culture."

In 2014, Chinese giant pandas Xing Hui and Hao Hao arrived at Pairi Daiza to stay for 15 years. This year Hao Hao gave birth to Tian Bao, who will live in Belgium for four years before returning to China.

The pandas live in a garden called "La Cite Des Immortels" in Pairi Daiza. According to the director, it is the biggest Chinese-style garden in Europe.

"I always like to work with Chinese artists," he said. "The next project of the zoo is to build a land of the cold," he said, adding it would be similar to ice sculptures found at the Harbin Ice Festival in China. Enditem
