Greek ferry runs aground off Chios island, no injuries

Xinhua, December 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Greek ferry ran aground early Wednesday off the port of the eastern Aegean island of Chios and was safely evacuated with no reported injuries, according to a Greek Coast Guard announcement.

The vessel, built in 1971, was carrying 13 lorries and operated by a 13-member crew at the time of the accident, which only caused damage to the ballast tanks. A preliminary inspection showed it does not pose any environmental risk.

The cause of the accident remains unknown. Endit
