18 injured in minibus accident in northern Ukraine

Xinhua, December 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least eighteen people were injured when a passenger minibus crashed in Ukraine's northern Chernigov region on Tuesday, the National Police said in a statement.

The accident took place on a rural road at around 8:30 a.m. local time (GMT 0630), when the vehicle with 20 people onboard veered off the road, plunged into a ditch and overturned.

The injured people were sent to local hospitals with severe bruises and multiple fractures.

According to initial investigations, the 42-year-old bus driver lost control of his vehicle due to the slippery road.

Bad road conditions are one of the main causes of road accidents in Ukraine, which cost the East European country about 2.5 percent of its gross domestic product.

From January through November this year, nearly 138,000 road accidents occurred in Ukraine, leading to the death of some 2,900 people nationwide. Endit
