JSE closes firmer as industrial index gains

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) all-share index gained 0.93 percent to 50,343.24 points at the close of session on Tuesday.

Naspers added 1.91 percent to R2,000.58 while Richemont lost 0.21 percent to R91.31.

The South Africa rand was trading at R14.04 to the U.S. dollar, R17.26 to the British pound and R14.55 to the euro.

AngloGold Ashanti, the biggest JSE-listed gold miner, was worst hit by the gold price retreat, dropping 2.28 percent to R131.44. Platinum miners responded to continued weakness in prices, with Impala Platinum off 0.5 percent to R42 and Lonmin down 0.18 percent to R22.41.

Old Mutual rose another 0.23 percent to R34.42, bringing its gains over the past week to 3.02 percent. It said it had realised gross proceeds of 291 million dollars from the sale of part of its stake in Old Mutual Asset Management. Endit
