The Jordanian Treasury on Saturday received the 470 million U.S. dollars grant from the U.S. government as a direct support for the country's general budget.
The grant aims at supporting the Jordanian government priorities in the fields of economic growth, education, health, water, democracy and governance.
Imad Fakhoury, minister of Planning and International Cooperation appreciated the support in a statement, saying that bilateral relation between the two countries is assured in depth.
U.S. ambassador in Amman, Alice G. Wells, said the unprecedented value of this year's grant reflects the U.S. commitment to supporting Jordan, noting the 60-year-old bilateral relations based on partnership to address challenges that confront the kingdom.
The grant is part of four grants signed in October of this year.
The Global Concessional Financing Facility was launched by the UN, IMF and the Islamic Development Bank last April upon a request from Jordan to reduce the cost of loans for middle income countries.
In 2014, the two countries agreed on providing economic and military aid to Jordan worth 1 billion U.S. dollars in 2015-2017. Endit
