Belarus economy down 2.7 percent

The economy of Belarus decreased by 2.7 percent in the first 11 months of 2016, the National Statistics Committee of Belarus said on Friday.

In January-November 2016, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Belarus amounted to 97.3 percent as against January-November 2015 in current prices. Industrial production fell by 0.9 percent.

The official forecast of the Belarusian authorities for 2016, approved in December 2015, envisaged the GDP growth at 0.3 percent.

Eurasian Development Bank expects a 2 percent slowdown in Belarus' GDP in 2016, with a gradual recovery in growth in 2018 to 0.5 percent.

The IMF predicts a 3 percent decline in 2016, and 0.5 percent in 2017. Endit
