Four security personnel killed in separate attacks in northeastern India

Xinhua, December 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least four Indian security forces personnel were killed and four others injured in two separate militant attacks in the northeastern state of Manipur Thursday morning, a senior police official said.

"The first incident took place at Lokchao, located around 21 km from the border town of Moreh in the state's Chandel district, about 6 a.m. (local time) when a group of militants ambushed a team of security forces personnel who were on road patrol duty," he said, on condition of anonymity.

The official said the second attack took place around 8.30 a.m. (local time) when another security forces' team was passing through the Bongyang area in the same district. "In both the attacks, a total of four security personnel were killed and four others sustained injuries," he added.

All the injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of a few are said to be serious, the official said, adding a massive manhunt has been launched in the area to track down the perpetrators of both the attacks.

Though a number of insurgent groups are active in Manipur, no one has claimed responsibility for the two attacks on security forces so far. Endit
