Nikkei drops on profit-taking following U.S. rate hike

The Nikkei index edged down in the morning session on Thursday as investors took profits from recent gains after the U.S. central bank raised interest rates overnight and suggested further rate hikes next year.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 28.37 points, or 0.15 percent, from Wednesday to 19,225.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange added 0.3 points, or 0.02 percent, to 1,538.99.

Decliners were led by electric and gas, mining and oil, and coal product issues. Endit
