German economic expectations remain stable

Xinhua, December 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

German economic sentiment in December remained at the same level as in November, a survey by the ZEW think tank has shown.

An indicator of economic sentiment for Germany remained at 13.8 points in December, below its long-term average of 24.0 points.

"Given the fact that the evaluation of the current situation has once again recorded an improvement, the overall assessment is quite positive," ZEW president Achim Wambach said in a statement.

"This is supported by the recently published positive GDP growth figures for the euro area in the third quarter," he said.

Germany's current economic situation has improved significantly. The index stands currently at 63.5 points after growing by 4.7 points.

"The considerable economic risks arising from the tense situation in the Italian banking sector, as well as the political risks surrounding upcoming elections in Europe, seem to have faded into the background at the moment," Wambach added. Endit
