Tanzania introduces guideline to boost int'l trade

Tanzania on Tuesday launched Export Handbook, which is to be used by the business community as a guideline to avoid errors and boost international trade.
Charles Mwijage, Tanzania's Minister of Industries, Trade and Investment said most businessmen were not aware of export procedures and challenges.
As a result, he said, most of them end up getting caught up in trial and errors, adding that the handbook will be a proper solution to exporters.
The minister urged the business community to work together and share with each other issues or relevant information on export procedures to build their vision.
"I call on experienced businessmen to share with the inexperienced to re-engineer business. Once they are informed they can do better in the market," he said, adding that export challenges involve demand and supply issues, marketing information and import procedures in the destination country.
He said Tanzania's government recognizes the contribution of industries in fast tracking economic development, hence it has embarked on bolstering the manufacturing industry.
According to the minister, it is difficult to win the market without knowing procedures and relevant information about exports.
Salum Awadhi, Tanzania's renowned consultant also underscored the need of access to right information as a major tool to win over exportation.
He said currently Tanzania exports four items which were marketing tourism attraction, manufactured goods, gold and traditional exports.
"Despite the fact that Tanzania had done little in terms of global export, I still believe that it can do better in a few years," he said.
He said Tanzania has a direct export access to European Union, Central and Southern Asia, Central and Southern and Africa and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Endit
